Yungblud cuts deep with “Ghosts” off his new album “Idols”

My god, what a beautiful song…

The eighth song off his album “Idols”, released Friday, Yungblud cuts deep with his track “Ghosts”. The raw ballads and soulful piano is more than enough to tug at your heart strings. If poetry could coexist in a song, “Ghosts” is a good example of that.

Diving into the lyrics, I hear a story of struggle and triumph. To persevere. Even through life’s toughest battles.

“Is it your mother’s tongue? Or your father’s ghosts?// Remember sticks and stones and how they broke your bones// Pain is how you learn, boy, you learned a lot”.

These are just a few of the lyrics that resonate with me deeply. When these lyrics first punctured their way into my soul, I think of that little girl in me who was hyper-sensitive. The little girl who didn’t feel like she had a voice and felt too much. Too much for her fragile heart. The sticks and stones metaphor, “pain is how you learn, boy, you’ve learned a lot”, those lyrics and references stick with me because not just myself, but so many of us have grown so much through our pains and struggles from childhood to the present. We’re still stitching up old wounds, but through all that, here we are. We’re still here despite all that. Your determination to keep living despite all else is something to truly be proud of.

There is a hint of morality in this song as well. From the chorus to the second verse, without saying it, this song conveys the message of how life is fragile. “We’ll be ghosts by tomorrow // Just to a day in a dream”.

I got the chance to listen to “Idols” in it’s entity while writing this. While “Ghosts” is just a part of the composition, I highly recommend you check out the whole album. If I could describe the sound, it’s quite different than what you would usually expect to hear from Yungblud’s typical punk/alternative/grunge rock style. It’s very ethereal while having those raw, heart jarring melodies you could belt out in the shower if you’re feeling extra emotional.

Yungblud is set to embark on his “Idols: The World Tour” from August, starting in Los Angelis through October, along with a few UK dates in April of 2026. Get your tickets below:
