The Beaches Wonder “Did I Say Too Much” On Newest Single

Canadian rockers, The Beaches, dropped their latest single, “Did I Say Too Much”. The track is the fourth single off their upcoming third studio album, No Hard Feelings,” out August 22nd. Previous offerings from said album include “Jocelyn”, “Takes One To Know One”, and “Last Girls At The Party”.

On “Did I Say Too Much”, the band, comprised of Jordan Miller, Kylie Miller, Eliza Enman-McDaniel, and Leandra Earl, navigates the complexities of relationships. “It's a song about how tough it can be to navigate queer heartbreak” the band explained to Stereogum. “There are so many layers, the pressure to stay friends with your ex, the complications of open relationships, dating girls who have boyfriends.”

Relationship complexities are evident in lines like, “Was it just a change of view? / Cause he could never please you / You made me break up with your boyfriend.” The band continues with their explanation, “Did I Say Too Much” is about stepping into an open relationship with no expectations, only to fall hard. It’s about the intensity of sharing your deepest feelings, knowing it’s not built to last, and the heartbreak of realizing you might’ve said too much.”

Despite its sharp lyrical content, the track carries a playful, almost campy tone, reminiscent of the soundtrack to an ’80s sitcom or film. Especially when bursting into the chorus opening line, “Did I jump the gun?”

By the bridge, it’s clear the band is frustrated with a former lover; “Even in the breakup / You can’t make your mind up. Took the extra measure / Gave me back my sweater. Soaked in your perfume / What the f*** is wrong with you?” feels urgent and hurried, as if they are eager to put the situation and person behind them.

In support of “No Hard Feelings”, the Canadian rockers are hitting the road this summer and into the fall. Tour starts June 6th with an appearance at The Governor's Ball in New York, NY, and concludes November 15th at Casino New Brunswick in Moncton, CAN. See The Beaches on their biggest tour yet here!
