Let the people dance to vienna vienna’s new song “cashgrab”
Vienna Vienna is the mastermind project of James Barre, known to his friends and fans as J. Known for his eccentric glam rock energy on stage, donned in his signature style of a fitted suit and tie.
“Cashgrab”, Vienna Vienna’s new song released last Wednesday is nothing short of rebellious. The whole song is electrifying with riffs to satisfy any indie/rock music enjoyer.
Behind the electric rock and roll sound is a story of a money hungry landlord and their tenant trying to scrap by in a forbidden love story… Well, not exactly a forbidden love story. It describes an unfair power imbalance while keeping the sound fun.
When scouring Genius for the meaning behind the lyrics, I came across this quoted annotation in the about section: “Conspiracy & surrealism over a groove so tight it’s pretty much fatal. Plus, it rips. In session I asked, how would it feel to fuck your landlord? Like this. Like a cashgrab. Let the people dance!!!!” - Vienna Vienna.
The song was teased while on tour with K.Flay on the “I’m making friends with the silence” tour over the spring, in which I got to see for myself at Vienna’s Chicago stop. I remember how tight the grooves were and how high the energy was. Regardless if you’re hearing it live or over streaming, Cashgrab will want to make you dance. To that I say let the people dance!!
Vienna, vienna, vienna!
