I Can’t Drive And I’m Losin’ My Mind Over Chandler Leighton’s New Song
Messy breakup? Still hearing from friends that your problematic ex is still hung up on you? Man, do I have the diss track for you. Presenting: “LOSIN’ MY MIND”. The new single from the brutally honest LA native singer/songwriter Chandler Leighton.
Leighton is no stranger to heartbreak, nor arrogant, ostentatious arses. In contrast to some of her heart-wrenching ballads, Leighton takes an electric approach to things, adding many layers to scratch your brain.
I’ve had the honor of hearing the song firsthand while working with Chandler on a handful of stops when she opened for Natalie Jane during her “Sick To My Stomach” tour back in January/February. While the live version I heard versus the released version have some small variations, they both make you want to jump around and dance carelessly. Even if you’re a golem like me who doesn’t know how to dance. It was amazing to see how well received the song was, especially by those who just found out who Chandler was just by coming out to those shows. One of my favorite parts of tour was just witnessing the magic that was Chandler turning the venue into a lively dance floor on cue. It goes to show that “LOSIN’ MY MIND” can be both that angry at your ex/break up anthem and a fun song to lose yourself in.
Backtracking to a Q&A/song release party that was held on the Chandlerverse a few weeks ago (Leighton’s discord server), Leighton had mentioned during the event that, compared to her previous projects, she wanted to have the sound of a live band going forward with her future projects. So she did exactly that, having every sound you hear on her upcoming project made up of real, authentic instruments. While I love both a live band sound and electronics, something about this decision proves that Leighton is not afraid to evolve her sound as she grows as both a person and an artist.
