Laufey Announces Introspective Third Album “A Matter of Time,” Out This August

Beloved jazz-pop artist Laufey has officially unveiled plans for her highly anticipated third studio album, A Matter of Time, set to be released on August 22, 2025. Following the success of her Grammy-winning sophomore record Bewitched, this new project marks a creative and emotional evolution for the Icelandic-Chinese singer-songwriter.

Described by Laufey as her most personal work to date, A Matter of Time explores themes of love, loss, self-discovery, and the fleeting nature of life. “I’ve taken my diary and turned it into an album,” she explained, promising fans an intimate look into the full spectrum of emotions she’s experienced over the past few years. The title reflects both the passage of time and the inevitability of change, central ideas that run through the project’s lyrics and sound.

Musically, the album expands Laufey’s signature blend of jazz, classical, and modern pop, with a bolder and more expressive approach. While her past work leaned into timeless elegance and quiet introspection, A Matter of Time leans into louder, more extroverted moments, mirroring her growth from small-venue artist to international star.

The album reunites her with longtime collaborator Spencer Stewart and introduces a new partnership with acclaimed producer Aaron Dessner (known for his work with Taylor Swift, The National, and Ed Sheeran). Together, they’ve crafted a sound that balances lush instrumentation with emotional vulnerability.

Fans have already gotten a taste of the album through two singles. “Silver Lining,” released in April, is a soft, romantic track about embracing vulnerability in love. In contrast, “Tough Luck,” which dropped on May 15, offers a more defiant energy, showcasing Laufey’s frustration and strength in the wake of a painful breakup.

As anticipation builds, A Matter of Time is shaping up to be Laufey’s most mature and adventurous work yet. With its poignant storytelling and rich musicality, the album promises to resonate deeply with longtime fans and newcomers alike when it arrives on August 22. Pre-save here!
