Wavy trees release new single “Nothing but you”
Los Angeles-based band Wavy Trees released their new single, “Nothing But You”, along with a retro PlayStation 1 game-inspired music video with the single. The best way to describe the band’s sound is if you were at a summer block party and the garage band was playing across the street, providing the music for the summer atmosphere. Wavy Trees comprises band members Zach “Moondog” Smith on lead vocals/guitar/piano, Jason Espiritu on guitar, and Brian Duke on bass guitar.
“Nothing But You” explores loving someone, loving someone more than anything. “Nothing But You" is about loving someone more than anything, but also falling in love with everyone you meet. I’m the type of person who falls in love every day, and this was written with no one in particular and everyone I’ve ever loved in mind." Says Zach “Moondog” Smith about the new single. For the music video, the band took inspiration from a retro PlayStation 1 video game, which was made by the band’s guitarist, Jason Espiritu.
“Nothing But You” harmoniously blends garage band elements, such as distorted and fuzzed guitars, emotional lyrics, and harmonic bass. The vocals, delivered by Zach “Moondog” Smith, elevate the song’s emotional impact through expressive and impactful lyrics. While the simplified lyrics of the garage band elements may seem straightforward, the song is far more than just that; it’s a dynamic form of expression. The Lo-fi soundscape is complemented by shoegaze influences. Both garage band and shoegaze elements share elements of distortion and minimalism in songwriting, however “Nothing But You” expresses mood and stands out just like the two genres.
The song explores about loving someone as Smith said. The interpretation we get is it also seems that the main subject wants to show the person they love the real them that they are, but they are worried. Worried about messing it up. Messing up the relationship they have with the person. The subject is a dreamer and lover, they are afraid of their flaws getting in the way in fear of getting heartbroken.
“I fall in love/ I fall in love with everything/ You see I’m just stupid/ I know nothing/ I’m never gonna ever figure it out/ But I love nothing but you”
This song may be from a garage inspired band, but they can write a deep cut song that is simplified and those are the best kind of songs. The band shows they can write with expression and emotion. It’s more than just distortion and fuzzy guitars. “Nothing But You” is a song anyone can enjoy, even if you are new to the genre or you typically don’t listen to the genre. Put it on in a car ride, a gathering, or when you’re having people over during the summer for fun. It will get people talking and asking “who is this band?”. The track is a must add for your up and coming summer playlist for the summer of 2025. It’s also a band to put on your Ones to Watch list.
