Royel otis release new single “Moody”

During a sold-out Los Angeles performance last week, the Australian indie pop duo unveiled a new song titled “Moody.” The single has since been officially released. The song, co-written by Grammy-nominated songwriter Amy Allen and produced by Blake Slatkin, narrates the story of a young woman. It’s straightforward and an indie daydream.

Royel Otis stands out as a unique musical entity. They refrain from following music trends, opting instead to maintain their authentic identity and adhere to their distinctive style. Their musical style can be described as an indie daydream, evoking a sense of nostalgia. The song “Moody” serves as an example of this, transporting listeners to a state of thinking about their special significant other, despite the occasional mood swings exhibited by the artist. Royal Otis’s approach is characterized by its simple and straightforwardness, avoiding any reading between the lines.

Royel Otis’s sound can be characterized as indie pop with occasional influences of dream pop. The song “Moody” exemplifies these elements, featuring shimmering guitars and emotionally charged vocals. “Moody” prioritizes the overall tone and mood of the song, allowing them to take their time. In contrast to their sunnier tracks, “Moody” adopts a more melancholic tone. It takes its time, avoiding the fast-paced and upbeat tempo compared to their other songs. It features smoother guitar riffs rather than bouncy guitar riffs.

Royel Otis’ “Moody” is a mature song. A move that can emotionally resonate with anyone who is in a relationship. The love of a significant other will have its times of moodiness, but nevertheless, the love is still there for that person even when “big emotions” are present.

“It’s just big emotions”/ “It’s not jealousy”/ “Most days of the week”
