Dylan declares it’s good to be “Bad” on latest single
Dylan returns with yet another catchy pop-rock banger! The track, released June 18th through Universal Music, starts with a repeated teasing, “Na-na-na-na, na / Na-na-na-na, na…” that easily recalls the opening of P!nk’s “So What” while the music itself vaguely recalls Britney Spears’ “Womanizer”.
Dylan immediately grabs your attention in the opening line, “Let's aim this gun in my direction” while explaining she, “used to be an angel, baby” and how she’s “done a lot of self reflection”. The singer, born Natasha Woods, decided that was no longer good enough while declaring she’s since, “Decided on a full 180”. The pop-rocker is done with being nice.
By the time the snappy chorus hits, you, too, will literally be snapping your fingers along, as the England-born singer brags, “Oh, my, my, it's so good to be bad / Got a big, red heart in the palm of my hand / Nice girls always finish last / I said, "Oh, my, my, it's so good to be, good to be-" There’s a brief pause. Then you can practically see Dylan shaking her head in disbelief with herself, cackling the post-chorus, “…Good to be bad”.
Verse two finds the English-born singer insisting, “Call me karma, I'ma getcha” (perhaps an indirect nod to Taylor Swift?) and taunts listeners by saying, “I'm faster than a Maserati (Na, na-na-na, na-na, na-na)”.
Other women in music have toyed with the idea of villains, including former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger’s little-known single, “Supervillain”. Whereas Scherzinger wants a supervillain to come rescue her, Dylan IS the supervillain. She doesn’t need saving.
Dylan relishes in playing the bad girl. And she knows it. After all, as she puts it in the pre-chorus, “'Cause what's the fun in bеing broken / When you can be the one that's causing pain?”
The ultimate villain anthem.
