The Marías Drench Berkeley in Dream-Pop Blues at the Greek Theatre

Berkeley, CA — Sunday marked the first night of The Marías’ two-night run at the iconic Greek Theatre, with both shows completely sold out, a clear sign of the band’s devoted fanbase and rising influence.

Fans started lining up as early as 8 a.m., hoping to secure front-row spots at the barricade. But at the Greek, an all-ages amphitheater known for its wide, open sightlines, every seat offers a great view, making the early lineups more about die-hard bragging rights than necessity.

The night kicked off with Julie, a three-piece band and creative collective from Los Angeles that is quickly making waves. Their sound weaves together noise rock, grunge, and shoegaze, pushing genre boundaries in a way that feels raw and fresh. With backgrounds in architecture and visual art, the band approaches each show as a full sensory experience, wrapping the music in a carefully crafted aesthetic that added a bold edge to the evening.

When The Marías finally took the stage, the venue transformed into a deep-blue dreamscape, echoing the aquatic visuals from their Submarine tour. The crowd, dressed largely in sleek black, moved and sang along to favorites like “Hush,” “Cariño,” and “Calling U Back.” Frontwoman María Zardoya’s mesmerizing vocals guided the night, creating a set that was less about singular moments and more about sustaining an atmosphere of intimacy and allure.

Adding even more meaning to the night, a portion of every ticket sale supported The Marías Foundation, which partners with community-focused nonprofits. The foundation’s mission is to uplift vulnerable individuals and families through advocacy, resources, and direct support, using the band’s platform to help create spaces where people feel seen, valued, and empowered.

The connection between band and fans didn’t stop when the lights came up. After the show, María was seen at Cornerstone Berkeley, joining a handful of lucky fans for an impromptu after-party that highlighted the group’s approachable spirit.

For The Marías, it’s not just about the music. It’s about building a world you can step into for a night. And on Sunday, that world was pure, blue-lit magic. Night one at the Greek set the bar high, and night two promised to deliver just as much.
